Where is it?Lanzarote is situated in the Atlantic Ocean just off the west coast of Africa. And on the same line of latitude as the Bahamas. As a result of this location the island – along with the other Canaries- gets sunshine and warm weather all year. Not just during the summer months. Making it the nearest winter sun destination for residents of Northern Europe.
How to Get There
Flights to Lanzarote take four hours from the islands main market of the UK. Services are available with most of the main budget airlines and from most airports across the UK too. The return journey time can on occasion be much quicker if the aircraft is benfiting from a tail wind and has been done in as little as 3 hours and 15 minutes.
Places To Stay
There´s a wide selection of Lanzarote holiday villas and apartments available on the internet. Self catering accommodation accounts for about half of all tourist beds. And is especially popular with guests from the UK, who seem to value the additional privacy this brings. Rental rates start at about €350 per week for villas in Playa Blanca, the islands fastest growing resort.
Getting Around
There are public bus services but they only really run between the main resorts and conurbations on the island. As a result it is best to rent a vehicle during your stay if you are planning on doing a lot of sightseeing. One other alterative would be to book guided tours of the key attractions. Bike hire is available also but Lanzarote is quite hilly with rough volcanic terrain. Making cycling pretty hard going.
Things To See
The volcanic region known as the Fire Mountain is the biggest attraction. Tourists flock here to view the dormant volcanoes and lava fields created by eruptions in the 18th century. Which occupy about 200km square of Lanzarote´s total surface area. The scenery is really strange and quite eerie.
Other natural wonders on the island include the Valley of 1000 Palms which is located in the north. This green haven has been created by locals who always plant a new palm for very new born baby in their village, Haria. Which is located right on the valley floor.
When To Go
Lanzarote can be enjoyed at any time of the year as a result of the incredible climate here. In winter temperatures reach up to 25 degrees Celsius whilst in summer they can rise as high as 38 degrees at times.

For anyone heading out the the city of Madrid, remember to pay a visit to the Stadium Santiago Bernabeu, which is one of the most awe inspiring sights you can possibly behold. Eat at around eleven in the still warm streets on an outside cafe, and then spend the next few hours sampling some of the wonderful bars that the city has to offer, and you will soon start to understand why the Spanish believe Madrid, and not Barcelona, to be
their jewel in their crown!Getting to Madrid is relatively easy, and there are plenty of direct flights that shouldn’t take much longer than one and a half to two hours in total.
